VIDEO: Musicians occupy Alexandrian streets

Artists occupying public space to present their work is not new to Egypt; since the revolution erupted in 2011, Egypt’s main city squares and streets have seen an array of public performances, bringing art into people’s lives – Published in Ahram Online.

“Mini-Mobile Concerts” in Alexandria is one such intervention. The performance is the brainchild of Alexandrian musician Ramez Ashraf, who uses a network of musicians to reclaim the streets in an attempt to bring independent music closer to people who have no access to these artists.

The initiative has brought more than 15 performances to the streets in a year, with more still to come.
